Overlapping Video Screen

Dec 19, 2016

I need some help. The MP4 video files are playing an overlapping screen in Chrome in my published HTML 5 output. This just started happening today. When I published last week in Chrome and IE the videos played correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening? My co-workers are stumped as well.
Two images are attached. One image shows the overlap and the other displays what the screen should actually look like.

Thanks,
John

Hi there John,

This is strange, indeed! I've not seen an issue like this in the past, so I'd be interested to take a closer look at your project file. Would you mind sharing your file (or even just the slide with the video) so I can do some testing on my end?

You can use the Add Attachment button at the bottom of the reply window, or if you prefer to send it privately, you can share it directly with our Support Engineers by way of this form.

Hi Alyssa,

Thanks for such a quick response to my video issue.  Attached is a sample file (3 slides) that displays the overlap that happens when the video is played in Google Chrome.  If you play this in IE it works perfectly fine.  As I stated yesterday, the videos were playing properly multiple times in Chrome last week when I published my course.  Any help you or your engineers can offer will be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Hi again John!

Thanks for sharing your file here. I published the file to Web with HTML5, and I could certainly see the duplicate video you described. It looks like this has something to do with the video being stretched horizontally. I reduced the width of the video back to it's original dimensions (as accurately as I could without the original video file) and that seemed to fix the issue.

I'm going to share your file with our support engineers so they can investigate this a bit further and verify the cause of the issue. You should hear from someone on the support team shortly!

Hi,

I published this scorm package a few months back and it was working good on Google Chrome and Mozila Browser. Now Strangely Slides with mp4 videos are running good at mozila but in chrome the same videos are overlapping.

You can test the two slides in this link: http://s3.amazonaws.com/tempshare-stage.storyline.articulate.com/sto_1djekokpp14df6i913qdgrq12sm9/story.html

Hi Rakesh,

It looks like you're using Storyline 2 Update 12 to publish this course? That's a bit of an older update, as in May 2018 Update 13 was released.

I don't see any known issues with Storyline 2 having videos that would overlap. It appears like your video is playing overtop an image of the video start that's a bit larger. Does that sound like the slide setup? Are you able to share a copy of the .story file here with us? That way we can take a look and do some additional testing.
