Overriding JAWS keystroke Assignment

Jan 02, 2018

I have my HTML 5 Storyline output uploaded to our LMS and working well with JAWS screen reader.

The user can move through a slide in a coherent order with the Tab key. They can also move between slides using '<' '>' keys. Also, they can play and pause a slide using '\'.

But pressing these keys ALSO makes JAWS readout what they are EVERY TIME - Backslash, comma and fullstop.

This page suggests I can write a .jss script file to override this JAWS command (Application-specific script file):

http://www.freedomscientific.com/Content/Documents/Other/ScriptManual/03-1_JAWSScriptsAndScriptFiles.htm

But this Application-specific script can only load when an application loads. A storyline output sat on an LMS doesn't class as an application, I don't believe.

Does the community know of another way round getting a customer to override default JAWS reader scripts? Is it just a matter of writting the script file and sending it to them separately, hoping IT with them will know how to make it work?
