Paragraph formatting on Master text placeholder doesn't work

Sep 17, 2018

I've been trying to customize the paragraph formatting on a text placeholder in a Master layout, but the formatting never works on a slide. And after I change the paragraph format on the text placeholder it just changes back to something else. Is this a bug or am I not doing this right?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you're running into an issue with your slide masters.

Would you be able to record a Peek recording of the behavior so that we can take a look and see if something is going on?

We do have an issue reported for bullets/numbering, but I'm not sure if this is what you're seeing.

Thanks so much Steve :)

Are you able to recreate this issue in any project you are working on in Storyline 360 or just this particular one?

I'm unable to replicate the behavior following along with your steps.

It'd also be helpful to know if we are on the same update. The latest update to Storyline 360 is Build 3.20.16814.0.

Hi Steve,

It's odd that you see it set to something else completely, as what I"m experiencing is the slide master settings for the paragraph can be reset to 0. I know our team was looking into some oddities with the paragraph spacing settings on a slide master not sticking, so I'll include your examples as a part of that.

One way around this is to add in a custom layout for your slide master, as that does seem to keep the settings. Here's a quick look at what I mean.

Hi Ashley / Steve,

An interesting problem sounds similar to mine.

I'm having something of a nightmare now of working with the Slide Master for formatting my text with bulleted indents. It doesn't seem to work as it does when I used to do this kind of stuff in PowerPoint. Here is a 'Peek' video of the paragraph formatting problem among others described below.

This project is newly built from scratch in SL360 (current build). The changes to the font/text and bulleted lists with coloured bullets don't seem to take effect when I go to apply slide layout or when I create a new slide.

I require bullets (Wingding font) and the second line to be indented with a different coloured 'Wingding' bullet. Is this possible? Or do I need to create this in Powerpoint first then import the style/template into SL360?

I've included my project - the subject matter is made up. The project did crash on me twice, so whether a bug has developed and caused my problems, I wouldn't know.

Am I missing something here?

With regards,

Dom

Hi Dominic,

Luckily it didn't crash on me so I think your file is okay (some general guidelines to prevent file corruption are outlined here).

Currently, Storyline doesn't support bullets on the slide master, so you'd need to add them in once on the individual slide as you add text. That's a feature request a few other Articulaters have asked about - so I'll include this discussion in the request our team has filed.

Storyline doesn't have an option for sub-bullets that are different, it'll keep the same bullet style. So perhaps instead for your sub-bullets, you could add in the Wingdings font as a part of the text?

I was able to add bullets on your slide and the sub-bullets as a different color than the text. But the bullet color will be the same for all bullets in a text box. If you needed different colors you'd need to have those in a separate text box.

Let me know if you need anything else!
