Paragraph spacing changing text size in slide master

Hello everyone,
In my project in Storyline 2 I have several slides in the slide master where I want to set the default paragraph spacing to 6pt before and after. When I make the change, it increases the default text size in the text box. I then change the text size back to the original size. However, after I do that, the spacing is no longer part of the text box. I keep going back and forth and the spacing won't stick with the original text size. After conferring with a co-worker, I turned off the "Autofit" option. I'm still having this issue though.
Is there somewhere else I should look? I change the paragraph spacing by right-clicking the text-box and clicking on "paragraph."
Thanks for reading this!
Phil

Hi Anne,
This issue is still with our QA team, so I don't have an update to share at this time.
Before I found this thread I tried the fix of altering the paragraph formatting in my Translation Word document, then re-importing it. The paragraph formatting was still lost. I have also tried setting up a new default text box with the paragraph formatting I want. The next text box created after setting the new default still lost the paragraph formatting. Also discovered when I exported my Storyline file for Translation, the paragraph formatting was lost there as well. Hopeful a fix will be shared soon as we have 52 courses to produce. That is a lot of text boxes to have to correct.
Hi Eva,
I'm sorry that those ideas or steps previously suggested didn't work for you. You may also want to look at using the "format painter" to be able to more quickly apply the formatting of your text boxes to others quickly. It's mentioned about half way to the bottom of this article.
But beware the Format Painter tool. While it can be a great timesaver for simple objects in a single format it doesn't work properly if you've applied any manual overrides to parts of your text, e.g., added a bold or italic word, put bullets on some of the paragraphs (but not all) in your text box. It seems to grab the first override you made and apply that to the entire text box. So if you have applied bold to a word somewhere in your text box and you try to format paste over that box all of the text will change to bold. Likewise if you have a bulleted line in an otherwise non-bulleted text box and you format paint over that all of your paragraphs will end with bullets. Probably not what you are looking for.
Excitedly I downloaded and installed Update 10 today, thinking that this major bug will have been fixed. It hasn't. Frankly (and I'm sorry to be blunt) this really sucks - and it's not the Articulate response I've come to admire.
Hi Anne,
No apologies necessary in regards to being blunt, all feedback is welcome and shared with our team. I can assure you this one is still with our QA team and has not been forgotten - Update 10 did resolve a number of other issues as you'll see detailed here. When there is a fix for a particular issue that has been discussed in the forums we'll respond in the appropriate discussions so that you're aware of the fix as soon as possible as well.
Thank you, Ashley. I'd guessed that we'd receive specific notification over our issue. I know it's not your fault, and I don't mean to give you a hard time personally - but I'm sure you're fully aware of everyone's frustration on this one!
No worries Anne- I know it's not personal, although we certainly use the feedback such as this to share with our team the "customer pain" so I appreciate and value the sincerity with which you share.
The staff also needs to understand how frustrating it is for customers to hear "no news to share" from them, but it's the response - Every. Single. Time.
I'm following a few bugs that I'm very anxiously waiting to have a fix for (over a year), and the broken record response is less than helpful - it is quite maddening.
Hi Terry,
I certainly understand and would likely feel the same if I were the customer. We're in the position of being the messenger here and it's our policy to not share information in regards to the timeline or roadmap. I know it can be infuriating to read a staff response in a longer thread such as this one where we share the same "no news" type of answer - but we often will come back to say so knowing that new responses may not have gone back through the entire discussion. I hope that helps clarify our position and continued reliance on this language in the forums.
If there is anything else I can be of assistance with, please feel free to let me know.
Hi Ashley
I am now assessing Storyline for the 3rd time. Over a year ago, I posted on this thread and I am disappointed to see that a year has gone by and this issue, which I'm sure impacts on many more people than have decided to post on this thread, is still unresolved?! There are many great things about your software, however creating consistency through master styles is a basic requirement that I'm extremely surprised to see is still below par and there's still no sign of a solution as you are unable to share a roadmap.
Yet again, I'm forced to look elsewhere.
Hi Dave,
It looks like you responded to Terry but may have meant it for me? Just wanted to check in here, just in case. As I said to Terry I can certainly understand the frustration and once we do have additional information to share I can assure you that we'll do so. If there is anything we can assist you with in the meantime, please don't hesitate to ask.
Yes I did. Shame the news is the same. No news.
I can fully appreciate Dave's frustration; we're working on a project at the moment that involves more than 500 slides - each one we have to format by hand. I know it's not your personal fault, Ashley - and we've had our discussions here already - but it's doubly frustrating because we DID have paragraph formatting and, by and large, slides that faithfully reflected the masters. But then along came an update that removed all that (one presumes by accident). We're left with a product that doesn't fully do its job and for this situation to persist for months on end is frankly not good enough. I hope your QA colleagues are aware of just how angry we are.
Hear, hear!
If it helps you sell it to your QA team I'll add my voice in frustration as well. It's not a small bug or defect, it's an issue around a feature that is/should be a major piece of functionallity. It dramatically impacts the way we design and develop our courses here.
Thanks all - and I can assure you I've shared all the recent feedback here with our QA team and our Director of Technical Support so that everyone is looped in on the impact this is having on customers.
Feeling the same frustration.
Hi Eva,
Just an FYI that responding via email includes your email signature here. You're welcome to edit the post to remove that information if you wish.
Any update on this issue? It's been nearly 2 years.
Hello Renee,
I do not have an update at this time, but thank you for bringing this up.
We are working to better track user impact with issues and you have brought this back to the forefront and I will update accordingly to be sure that this is on our radar for discussion.
This issue brings me pain and frustration every single day. I can't think of a single item in SL2 that causes so much wasted time and energy for me and my team. Would it help if I had each one of them comment on this thread and the amount of time and frustration it's caused them for your support team to understand just how bad this is? It'd become a mini DoS of ELH.
Finishing up editing/formatting 1504 slides individually because paragraph formatting will not hold in a slide master, nor will it hold when importing my Spanish translations. Couple that with editing 1504 Notes tabs due to the inability to set paragraph formatting in the Notes tab in a global way equals a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. Please find a fix for both of these issues. Project time could have EASILY been cut in half, possibly more.
Curious if there is an update to this thread? Still experiencing the same issue.
Hi Angela and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
This thread is a bit dated. Looks like the issue discussed here was related to Storyline 2. Is that the product you are using as well?
We have a similar report for Storyline 360 that indicates an extra step is needed:
Paragraph spacing only updates when you switch to Slide View then go back to Slide Master or when you select another slide object.
Just let me know what version you are currently using and I'll be sure to update our report.
