Paragraph spacing changing text size in slide master

Hello everyone,
In my project in Storyline 2 I have several slides in the slide master where I want to set the default paragraph spacing to 6pt before and after. When I make the change, it increases the default text size in the text box. I then change the text size back to the original size. However, after I do that, the spacing is no longer part of the text box. I keep going back and forth and the spacing won't stick with the original text size. After conferring with a co-worker, I turned off the "Autofit" option. I'm still having this issue though.
Is there somewhere else I should look? I change the paragraph spacing by right-clicking the text-box and clicking on "paragraph."
Thanks for reading this!
Phil

This is definitely still happening to me in SL3.
Thanks Leslie - I am using SL2.
Thanks, Angela and Terry for confirming your versions. This issue is still open with our team, but we'll let you know here as soon as we have any more info to share.
I'm sure you can understand why that doesn't give me much confidence.
This is such a fundamental issue (and seriously, the entire raison d'être of master slides) that it astonishing it still hasn't been addressed in nearly 4 years.
I only found out recently, through one of your technicians, (Joshua - great guy), that there is a 'workaround' to get a master slide text/shape box to roll out a colour change to the text:
"When editing the slide master heading/body, have you tried selecting the text box itself by clicking on it in the timeline panel and then changing the text color? Selecting the text box worked better for us as opposed to highlighting the text in the text box and then changing the color."
Like, if he hadn't mentioned that I'd never have tried it because I naturally try to click on items on the slide, not the timeline. If this is the level of hackery involved in using master slides then what is the point?
I hope Joshua's advice there helps alleviate some of the stress in rolling out just a simple text colour change in master slides, but it would be fantastically worthwhile if Storyline focused on making the production and editing of modules easier such as, style sheet formatting (for titles, paragraphs, lists, boxes, lines, etc, etc) that could be adjusted in an instant rather than new whiz-bang 'features'.
I fully agree with Diarmaid. I expect the standard respronse form Articulate to file a feature request: https://articulate.com/support/contact/feature-request
I just did (# 01503398). Perhaps it helps if more users file a request and post the feature request here.
It is indeed frustrating that this takes so long.
I tried all this in a new blank lesson (SL3), and the master slide formatting seems to work as I would like it. I can adjust font, colour, size, and paragraph spacing and it automatically applies to slides that use that master. (except text where I have overridden these properties e.g. bulleted, underlined, etc.)
Is this possibly an issue in my existing lessons because the original masters were created in SL2 (or maybe even SL1)? It would not be an ideal solution to have to recreate masters everytime I upgrade, but it is somewhat better than doing all my formatting manually.
I'm also curious if this could be the issue for some of the other users on this thread. (At least those that are using SL3)
Hi Terry,
I know this discussion has a couple different issues with paragraph spacing in a slide master, as Leslie detailed earlier. It sounds like your issue is that any settings you applied on a slide master in Storyline 2 won't carry over when upgrading that file to Storyline 3?
I gave that a quick test from Storyline 2 to Storyline 3 and anything I had applied to the slide master such as theme and fonts, carried over. I'd like to take a look at your .story file from SL2 if you can share? Perhaps we had some settings differently that I can narrow down.
Hi Ashley, I'd be happy to send you the lesson to look at, but I can't really share it here. Can you send me an upload link?
Hi Terry,
Of course, can you upload it to me here?
Done
Thanks, Terry. We got it and our team is taking a look!
I'm having this problem, too.....over 4 years....you'd think we'd have a fix by now.
Bonkers!
Hey, Carrie. So sorry you're running into issues with paragraph spacing on the slide master. Are you using a custom slide size? We've found the problem generally happens when the slide size is custom.
I'm really sorry for the headaches this bug is causing you. If we get more information, we'll pass it along to you!
Thanks, Alyssa. No, it's a standard screen size.
Thanks, Carrie. Is this happening in Storyline 360?
it sounds like you're seeing something different than the bug we mentioned earlier in this discussion. Would you mind sharing a sample file or even a quick Peek 360 screen recording with our team? You can get in touch with our Support Engineers by clicking here.
Alyssa, I'm on a deadline and out of town next week, but I'll try to get something to you soon! Thanks for reaching out!
I understand, Carrie! We'll be here when you're ready!
Is there an update for this? I am using the latest version of SL360, and I submitted my module 1 year ago, and I don't think anyone got back to me (Unless my email client deleted it, but I have a number of emails from around the same time, so I don't think that's the issue)
I would really like to know if this issue will ever be fixed.
Hi Terry,
I do not have an update to share at this time.
I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.
Our testing shows that paragraph spacing updates when you switch to Slide View then go back to your Slide Master or when you select another slide object.
Thanks Leslie, that's not the case for me, the paragraph spacing does not update at all. I sent a module in a year ago, (Case #01508841) and they were able to replicate it and logged it as a bug, but I have not heard anything else about it.
Thanks for the clarification, Terry. It sounds like the workaround steps did not work for you.
This conversation and your support case are still tied to the open issue, so we will notify you when we have additional information to share.
Good news Everyone!
We fixed the issue you reported where the placeholder's paragraph spacing doesn't update in real-time, and users had to switch to slide view and go back to slide master.
Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
Thanks Ren - is this only fixed in Storyline 360, or is it also resolved in Storyline 2 where the original issue was identified?
