Pass/Fail Not Working

Mar 03, 2017

I have a short course followed by a single acknowledgement question at the end that basically says, Yes, I understand. I have it set up for Pass/Fail based on the quiz.

However, when I fail, I'm not getting a failure. I am getting incomplete. The one potential issue is that I moved the Results slide to a different scene that will not be accessed. This is because I originally set  up the question to branch to different slides for correct/incorrect, and then realized that I probably needed the results slide for scoring. I tried moving my correct/incorrect layouts to the Success and Fail layers, but I couldn't get that to work. When I failed, I consistently was taken to the Success layer. So I undid all that and rebuilt my branching slides.

I have the triggers for the results slide and everything. Should this show a Fail if I don't select the right answer? Or is the fact that I never go to the results slide an issue, even though I have all the tracking and scoring pointing to the quiz?

p.s. I'm using Corterstone On Demand LMS>

Thanks.

Hi Amy,

A few thoughts to help with your troubleshooting here:

  • Each LMS can use different language and definitions for Complete/Incomplete and Pass/Failure settings, so you may want to confirm with your Cornerstone team what you should be using and if there is a particular SCORM type you're supposed to use.
  • I'd also look at testing your course out at SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard for LMS testing and you can follow the steps in this article.
  • For the results slide, the user will need to visit the results slide to ensure that the triggers are executed and then everything is passed to the LMS.

Also, if you'd like us to take a look at your file we'd be more than happy too. You’ll want to upload the .story file here (which is the file prior to publishing) using the “ADD ATTACHMENT” button at the bottom of the forums reply window. If you’d prefer to not share in the public forums you’re always welcome to share with our Support Engineers here. They’re available 24/7 to assist!

Thanks Amy -

And I see that you worked through this issue with Jonathan who confirmed that the "In progress" status was specific to Cornerstone and advised you to reach out to their team for some additional help. He shared a few reminders about how to enabled LMS debug mode as well in the event that it'll help you showcase what is being passed to the LMS and how SCORM Cloud interpreted as expected.

Yes he did. I also (finally!) tested it on SCORM Cloud, and the pass/fail worked as designed. BUT I asked for a technical LMS administrator and our apparently not-very-technical admin complained to my boss. He did nothing with the debug-enabled file, apparently. I think we have to refer it out. Ugh.

I wish I could do the troubleshooting, but I don't know how.

Uh oh, Amy - could you show your boss the results from SCORM Cloud as a bit of push back? If you've got debug logs from SCORM Cloud and your LMS, there are often lots of tools to help compare two documents and find where things diverge. For example, I know some folks use tools like WinMerge to compare two documents.

Hope that helps - and feel free to keep us posted!
