Persistent button states
Feb 08, 2021
Hi,
I have 2 buttons each with 2 states, normal and hidden which I use to toggle audio.
Is it possible to retain the state of the 2 buttons from screen to screen or will the initial state always be reset at screen start?
Ditto question for switching layers.
I am hoping not to go down the path of using a variable to determine the state of the buttons as this will add another 5 lines to each and every screen.

If you want the button state to be persistent across slides you will have to uses a variable.
I am not sure what you mean by ditto for switching layers. Can you explain a little more about what you are trying to do with the layers.
Hi Nancy,
Thank you for clarifying this for me. It is what I expected but not what I hoped for. I am currently using a true/false variable to set the states and I was hoping that these buttons (with their states) would transfer to subsequent slides. But it looks like I will need to copy the same four triggers to every screen. :(
My lazy "ditto" line was to ask if the state persistence could be transferred to subsequent layers once the states were set in the Base Slide, without the need to copy these four triggers into every layer.
On further thought and I will try this today, if I do not cover the buttons and make the base slide clickable, I might just get away with only having to set up the states once per slide :) Otherwise the ^C and ^V is going to get a good workout today!
If you have the button on the base layer you shouldn’t have to copy the triggers to each layer.
Good tip! Also on the layers where I don't want the buttons to appear, I
simply choose to hide them in the base layer list.
Thank you Nancy for your ongoing thought about my problem.
