SL has built in states and knows when to show hover state automatically and selected state automatically without you adding a trigger - if you do add triggers it can cause issues which is what has happened in your case.
I duplicated your slide and removed the triggers and you'll see it works as expected. Hover state shows when the mouse is hovered over and when the user clicks it changes to selected state.
Thanks for the reply. I figured it out--I used SL buttons as my pick-one objects (buttons have their own set of states and triggers). That's why it didn't work. When I redid things using objects (a shape with text inside), it worked fine.
@alyssagomez My pick one question has a replay instead a check mark. Therefore, the person submitting the question cannot submit their answer. What is going wrong?

Go to properties and make sure Submit button is selected. Otherwise, there could be dozens of reasons why. You'd have to attach at least that slide here so someone could check it.
Thanks so much for quick follow up. I removed the freeform setting, then added it back (after copy and pasting all the t/f answer information.). After that, everything was working again. Thanks so much for responding too!
