Picture Effects Make Images Blurry

Sep 21, 2018

Hello,

I'm using SL 3, and am trying to add effects to some images upon a Hover state. When I apply any effect, such as glow, shadow, reflection, etc., the image immediately becomes very pixelated and blurry. I'm using high-quality purchased stock images, so it's not the native resolution causing the issue. They look crisp when no effect is added.

This error did not occur in SL 2, and since this is my first time using SL 3 for something like this, I can only assume it's the new version that came with this issue. Please help! I'm working on a very short deadline and can't afford delays.

Thanks in advance!!

LL

Whenever you insert and scale an image where the resolution is greater than the slide resolution you will have some degradation. In addition, when you apply the effects you describe, there will be some slight degradation.

In your case, during the production mode, the image will look pixelated. However, when rendered in preview or published that level of pixelation shouldn't remain. Here's a demo video where I show the difference between the two and you can see there's no noticeable difference when previewed.

If that's not the case for you, let us know.

Also what resolution is the image you inserted? If I work with really large images I usually batch convert them to smaller resolution. For example, if my course is 720x540 I don't need any image that 4000x3000. ImageTuner is a free app that will batch convert. If you use SnagIt, that works as well. And most graphics programs have that capability, too.
