Picture Fill different in preview than slide view
May 16, 2019
Hello! I'm trying to create a flashcard interaction. I have a shape with a picture fill on the front. I selected to tile the picture as a texture and lined everything up nicely. When I preview the tile is VASTLY different from it is when I'm on the slide view. Is there a fix for this?
Note: My Scaling is at 100%, Resolution 1920 x 1080 if any of that matters.
On the attachment, the first two cards are scaled to display correctly (although blurry) on preview. The rest show correctly on slide view, but when you preview you can see they're tiled and much smaller. Also, only the first slide has been configured as an interraction so far.

This is interesting because I've noticed that if I add a reflection to a picture, the size of the reflection is much larger (longer beneath the picture) when published than what is shown in Slide View. I wonder if these issues are related.
Oh! I haven't seen that yet! It sounds like they could be related.
It's definitely frustrating. I know I could size these all in Photoshop first and that would eliminate it - but let's be real, I prefer to stay out of Photoshop as much as possible!
Maybe post a screenshot. Here's what my issue looks like, slide view on the left, published output on the right.
I posted the whole slide. Is it not working?
Carly,
If you post from your phone, it doesn't work. You have to use a browser, and visit this page and use the Add Attachment button.
I didn't post from my phone. Let's try again.
I'm updating drivers on my laptop now, per instructions from Articulate support. I'll let you know if that resolves my issue, maybe it will help yours also.
Installing Windows 10 and new video drivers did nothing to solve the strange issues I'm seeing. Huge waste of time.
I see the tiling issue in previewing your project, but I'm not sure what's causing it. Hopefully support will reply here today.
Thanks for letting me know! How frustrating, sorry you're dealing with something similar!
Hi Carly,
Thanks for sharing this file. I took a look, and I'm trying to understand the design to tile the images as a part of the picture fill. Are you looking to do this so that they fit better and you don't have to edit them outside of Storyline? I un-tiled a couple and saw they were not as zoomed in as your top two tabs, so that's my guess. With Storyline, we always recommend using images at their intended size and the best resolution possible to ensure the best quality. I'd look at cropping these images down to their desired size before inserting. Or, add in the image standalone to crop/size vs. applying it to a shape as a picture fill.
Michael,
I also wanted to clarify something you mentioned in your support case. The suggestion to update the drivers was due to how the triggers panel was displaying and didn't have anything to do with your image display. I gave Renz a heads up that you've run into trouble with images too, as I didn't see that in your case.
Ashley, thank you. I've had to put these issues on the back burner for now. I let Renz know. I didn't want to hijack Carly's thread, just thought the issues might be related.
Thanks for the response!
I get that I could resize all of the images before putting them in there. As you can understand, this isn't ideal as it will be far more time consuming. I would certainly prefer to use the feature built in that would allow for this faster work around, if it were functional.
So, my desires for this project being irrelevant, are you saying that picture fill is working as designed? Whether I want to use it as developers intended or in another manner, really is irrelevant. When in story view, the display should reflect what it will be in preview mode - so that you can format the shape effectively, right?
Update for anyone following, or sees this in the future: A rep responded via email stating that it's been logged as a possible software bug.
Thanks so much for popping back in and sharing an update with the community, Carly.
I've attached this conversation to the report filed so that we can share any updates with users here as well.
I'm running into an issue with this as well. Tried using the Fill Picture option and set everything up to make it look like I wanted. Tried previewing it, and this is what I got. There are a few ways to work around this, but incredibly frustrating and a waste of time to continue finding workarounds to Storyline bugs.
Hi Jordan,
I'm sorry to hear you're running into this bug as well! I don’t currently have any updates, but I'll share your details with our team, and will reach out in this discussion with any updates.
Hi everyone,
Happy to share the good news with you!
We just launched the newest version of Storyline 360 (Build 3.46.23620.0) this morning, which fixed the issue where shapes with tile picture as the texture were not displaying correctly.
The next step is to update Storyline 360 by heading to your Articulate 360 desktop app and clicking "Update" next to Storyline 360.
As always, we are happy to answer any questions you have by posting in this discussion, or you are always welcome to contact Support directly.
