pinch zoom instantly crashes safari on ipad

Dec 04, 2013

We have a Storyline course we're launching from our LMS.  The LMS does not speak Tin Can so we're viewing the course on iPad in Safari so we can use SCORM to track completion; publish includes HTML5 but not iPad app. Once I launch the course, 4 out of 5 times, if I pinch zoom, Safari instantly crashes. The iPad I'm using has iOS version 7.0.2.  The LMS is using index_lms.html to launch the file.  I'd love to know why this is happening.

Here's the thing: If I put the same package on a web server--not launching from LMS--and use story.html to launch it instead, I cannot pinch zoom at all in Safari on iPad at all. It is simply the case that nothing happens when I pinch zoom.

What is the difference between launching with index_lms.html vs. launching with story.html in regards to pinch zoom?  Frankly, I'd be happy to disable pinch zoom in the LMS if I could to prevent the crash...

Any hints along any of these lines greatly appreciated!  Thanks, David

Hi David,

Our HTML5 output does not support gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom or swipe, on mobile devices, which is  why when you access the story.html file from your web server, nothing happens. It seems the LMS may have that functionality, but I don't know of any way to disable it within the LMS. Have you tested it within SCORM Cloud to see if it's LMS specific? If you're able to replicate the crash in SCORM Cloud, can your share your .story file with us here?
