Pixels or Points in Storyline?

Aug 28, 2018

I compared what Storyline 3 calls "14" font size to how that is measured in Photoshop, making sure I took screenshots at 100%. To my surprise, the font size was really 18 points, or 24 pixels, or 6.35 mm. We are trying to understand what standard "14" comes from. Can anyone explain this? Thank you.

Hi Kathy,

Are you importing from Powerpoint into Storyline to see the font change? You'll want to set the slide sizes to be the same. Otherwise, Storyline may adjust the font sizing to fit on the slide. Powerpoint measures the size in inches, whereas Storyline is measuring it in pixels.

Let me know if I'm misunderstanding and it would help to see your files side by side if you're still having trouble.

Hi Ashley, I attached a screenshot in my original posting that shows my SL3 file at 100%. It shows how the file size is saying 14 (something). But when I bring that screenshot into Photoshop and compare the font sizes there, what SL3 calls 14 is really 18 points or 24 pixels. I've been using Photoshop for years, and it always aligns correctly to the web font measurements.

Hi Kathy,

I saw your image earlier, but I wasn't sure what you saw in Powerpoint or Photoshop. I do know that Photoshop and Storyline are not a one to one conversion, based on a much earlier discussion here where you can see some additional comparisons.

It looks like that may be what you're seeing? If you're still stuck or think you see something unusual, could you share a copy of your .story file here with us so that we can take a look?
