I have a slide with 3 layers. Learner must click on screen choice to pick a layer.
If instead, the learner clicks a player TAB that opens a lightbox slide, closing the lightbox plays audio from all layers at once while showing the base layer.
I have a project with slides that have feedback layers with VO, depending on what the user selects on the main timeline. There is also a layer with a button for a lightbox slide to appear. On closing the lightbox, all 4 feedback VO from the layers play at the same time.
Hey Mark. You're right - we've got an issue where opening and closing a lightbox slide from a layer causes layer audio to play simultaneously. We haven't solved this yet, but I'll make sure we update this discussion if we do.
In the meantime, we found a workaround was to add a trigger to play the audio when the timeline of each layer starts. Let me know if that works for you!

So even though the audio plays automatically, adding a trigger to play the audio on timeline start is a workaround or is there more to this?
Adding the trigger to play media on the start of the timeline will override the autoplay behavior, and that's where the issue is appearing. You shouldn't need to do more than that, but if that workaround isn't functioning, with your permission we'd want to test out your file. You can always share that here in ELH or send along to our Support Team. Either way, we'll delete it from our computers when done.
I am having a similar issue, except instead of just playing the audio, it seems to be triggering all the triggers on all the layers as well. (The attached file is an example version of a much larger project).
For example, each layer on the "Board" slide has a "jump to slide X when timeline ends" trigger on them. When I open and close the "Check Score" lightbox it not only plays the audio of all the layers, but also jumps to slide X. It's like all the layers are visible at once, but it's not showing the graphics from any layer except the base layer.
Interestingly, this also happens on the question slides in this project if the user clicks the custom submit button without typing in an answer to the question. In that case, clicking "OK" on the "you must submit an answer" pop-up causes all the layers to play.
This did not used to happen in this project. Is it possible this bug was brought about by the most recent update?
Thanks for sharing those details and a copy of your project. I took a look and saw some similar odd behavior, so I started a Support case for you so that our engineers can take a look.
They'll be in touch via email once they've tested out your project.

We’ve opened case number 01646248 for you.
Thanks, Sam.
I can see that Lea has already been in touch with you and is working on testing your file.
Hi there, I have also had this same issue.

Has there been any joy fixing this issue?

I am having the same issue so am commenting to follow. Adding the play audio trigger to the layer fixed the issue for me for now too. :-) Thank you!
Thanks for confirming that the workaround worked for you Carie :) You're in the right place to be notified of updates we have to share.
Imagine a world where Storyline bugs where fixed, and you didn't have to spend hours doing workarounds :-)

This bug has been around for a few months. It doesn't bode well for Articulate to take so long to address an issue like this.

Is this bug not fixed in today's release after being reported two months ago?

Great news! We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes that you'll see in the release notes here.
The item you'll be interested in is:
Fixed: Audio tracks from multiple layers could play simultaneously, even when the layers weren't open.
Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
