I noticed that the play/pause button is visible in the player, although I disabled it. (in the modern player interface). In the section 'Controls', only the Seekbar is selected.
In the preview pane, the play/pause button disappears, but when the lesson is published...woops, there it is!
Problem is solved. I had to select the 'Reset' link (in the Player features) in the Slide Properties panel (which appears when you double-click on the thumbnail in the Base Layer in the Slide Layers pane) on every page/slide. This was not very efficient...but it works.
Hope this saves someone else time and frustration :)
