Player Accessiblity

Jul 24, 2015

Does the Storyline player have alternative keys that can be used instead of using a mouse click? If not, does anyone have any idea of how I can add alt-keys for the player and associated menu bars? Not everyone is able to use a mouse so alt-keys are needed to meet accessibility standards.

Thanks for your assistance.

I appreciate the assistance on the tab order as well as the article. However, it still doesn't help me resolve the issue with the player or being able to access the course transcript via the side menu. I need to be able to develop alternative keys that will allow that to happen. I've added a captions and audio description on/off features to the top menu which makes my course more accessible, but not if there isn't a way to access them with alt-keys instead of mouse clicks. Any suggestions?

I think we're talking about different things. I'm including a screen shot of my sample course. I know how to set alt-keys so people can go forward or backward in the course. What I need to be able to do is set alt-keys for the pause/play and reset features on the player. I also need to be able to set alt-keys for the captions and audio description on the top menu, and so people can access the resources, menu and transcript on the right panel. Is there any way to add alt-keys to those features?

Exact Change Strategies

I have a question related to accessing Resources with the tab key.  I can get the yellow highlight on Resources, and I can use tab so that the highlight attaches to each of the resource items, but neither the space or the enter key will actually trigger the resource item to open.  Only a click will work.  Is this a bug?

Hi Jill,

We do have a reported issue specific to using the Modern Player. Is that what you are experiencing as well?

If so, I'd be happy to add you to the report and the workaround in the meantime is to utilize the Classic Player for Storyline 360.

If you're seeing different behavior, feel free to share your .story file so we can take a closer look.
