Player display issue for template

We are using a template to create several short courses. I built the template from scratch using the 16x9 aspect ratio. For some of the courses, the player displays fine. For others the slides are centered on the screen and the player is filling in the background. If I preview a single slide, it displays fine. If I display a range of slides, or publish I get the larger player.
I have double-checked the player settings in the main template and also checked to see if any of the developers changed any setting and no one has. Is there something I'm missing? I have attached an images to show you what I'm talking about.

Without seeing your file setup ...I've found that normally means one of your slide properties is different to the others. If you open the project in story view and then look at the slide properties. Most might say 'player default' but one or more might say 'custom for selected slides'
