Player menu navigation malfunctioning

Jan 07, 2019

Hello everyone,
If I preview my projects or publish them then I have a problem with the menu.
I expect that when I click something in the menu I navigate to the matching slide. In reality, every click I go to the next slide instead of slide from the menu.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi there, Patrick.  Your expectations are exactly what should happen with the player menu!  With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting. If you'd prefer to keep the file private, please share with me directly by uploading it here.

If you can't share your file, tell me a little more:

Thanks for the troubleshooting help!

Thanks for sending your file, Patrick.  I'm replying publicly so we can share the issue with others who find this conversation!

We have an issue where clicking on custom menu headings doesn't bring you to the first slide in that sequence.  In HTML5 output, clicking on custom menu headings will actually jump to the next slide from where you were last.

In the meantime, we have this workaround:

  • In the Menu panel of your Player Properties, reset the Menu.
  • Rename the first slide in each scene to your "custom" menu heading name.
  • Promote that slide to a Heading.  Delete the remaining slides.  It'll look like this:

Making these changes in the Menu won't affect how the slides are actually named or in what order they appear.  I know it's a little bit of legwork to reformat, but hopefully this method helps you get the look you want in the Menu and the proper functionality!

I'll keep you posted with any changes to the bug.

Hi Patrick,

We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes and enhanced features that you'll see in the release notes here.

The item you'll be interested in is how clicking a custom section header in the menu didn't jump to the first slide in that section has now been fixed.

The first step is to update Storyline 360. Head over to the desktop app and click the "Update" button for Storyline. More details here.
