Player vanishes once published but there in preview - sudden change

Apr 05, 2016

Hi

I have spent the day updating previous SL projects by opening and re publishing in the latest version.

All was going as expected until suddenly the published 'view project' test opens without a player.

I did nothing different to all the others successfully done previous to this one, so am at a loss as to what it is.

The player shows as expected in 'Preview' but after publishing, when clicking 'view project' there is no player or controls at all.

If I change the player to the default SL one it does remain after publish, but if I use the original one I created and saved for the file, it does not.

I went back to a file which worked and exported my player, then imported to the 'rogue' file but it still fails to show after publishing.

Can anyone help, I cannot find anything on this on the forum when searching.

It seems bizarre when I have done the same process with several other files today without issue.

Any suggestions gurus?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Christie and thanks for your reply!

WOW, it works as expected when I upload to the intended environment!

I have also realised an ongoing issue where the logo vanishes after publishing but is there in preview and when you go into the player logo area ALSO shows the logo in the intended environment when it does not in the locally published view?!

That will save me time in having to go in and redo it as it happens on about 25% of publishes.

Whilst this is a relief, why does Storyline 'randomly' show something different in the locally published view to the uploaded view?

Is there a way to avoid this?

It is hard and wastes a huge amount of time when you cannot trust what Storyline shows you in the local published copy is what it will show once uploaded.

Appreciate any advice and resolution on this - thanks!

Hi, Debbie -- Glad to hear the player was there when you tested in the intended environment!

And unfortunately, as stated in the article, "If you view an Articulate Storyline course on your local hard drive (or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive), you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.", so it's hard to say for sure where the issue occurred.

There could be something more going on with this particular file, as you had shared that you did not encounter this behavior with other files. So, you might want to try importing the file into  new file, and it may also be helpful to run through these general troubleshooting steps for Unexpected or Erratic Behavior in Articulate Storyline 2 to see if you find improvement.
