poor video compression quality for animations

May 15, 2013

As a workaround to using swf files in our courses, I have exported a Flash animation as a mov file and then imported the mov into Storyline. The animation has flat color areas and text. The mov file looks clean and clear when viewed in the QuickTime player. When imported into SL, there are significant jpeg-type artifacts resulting, similar to what one sees when a flat color image is saved as a jpeg instead of a png or gif format.

The only solution for getting better visual quality for the mov I have found is to replace the published output mp4 with the non-SL compressed file. Of course, that file is now bigger in size, and if narrated, significantly bigger in size.

Is there any way at all to specify the mov compression quality in SL in order to get a cleaner visual result?

Thanks.
