Posting and Previewing on Website

Jan 25, 2018

For a couple of years we have been posting Storyline files to our website and giving people a link to the site to review the program to provide feedback. Once the program is finished, the clients post the files on their own LMS.  It has worked fine.

Last night, the transfer via FTP seemed super-slow and kept having to restart (and another person at another location with another ISP). Once the program is finally posted, it doesn't work -- you get the animated spinner that implies "wait/I'm working on it" but nothing happens. Files uploaded previously still work fine though. After a day talking to the web hosting support people, I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I am using a current version FTP program (filezilla), the website is unlimited for storage and up/downloads, and nothing was changed with the site or with the Storyline programs.  Also, the published programs run locally by the way, just not after uploading.

It sounds like you're just having FTP problems with your server. If the files aren't uploaded correctly, they can get corrupted and the course won't load properly. I had the same problem a few months ago with my previous web host. Switching to a new web host solved my problem. If this is happening from two different client locations, then it sounds like something has changed at your hosting server.

Pete,

One thought might be security/permissions settings. For example, on Amazon's S3 service, you have to alter the security settings for webcontent to be accessed. In the case of Storyline content, if the host's permissions aren't set appropriately, you'll only receive that spinning splash screen.

So I guess one possible avenue of exploration would be to see if anything has changed on your host's side in terms of security/permissions.
