Powerpoint into storyline into Moodle

May 07, 2013

Hi there,

recently bought Storyline for one purpose really - to help with our Moodle LMS. We use powerpoints with audio voiceovers on them but they dont go smooothly into Moodle. Whereas Articulate was recommended that it can take powerpoints and turn them into a SCORM package that plays well in Moodle 2.0.

Just tried it and it seems to work very well, much better than before but on my samsung galaxy tab2 and on an iPad there is no audio to the presentation. My colleague tried it on an iPod or iTouch and it seemed to work he said.

This is a problem as our students will likely use tablets to use the LMS.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Brian.

ps - I checked the boxes for html5 and iPads when making the articulate scorm package.

Hey Brian, welcome to the community!

At this time, we only officially support HTML5 on mobile Safari for iPad, or Safari and Chrome on desktop. We don't support any other tablets or mobile devices currently, but it's certainly a popular feature request

That being said, lots of our users are having success using other mobile devices.

If you're having issues running the content on one of our supported devices, would you mind testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate-related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks, Brian.

Welcome to the community, Brian!

Unfortunately, the only mobile device supported for Articulate products is the iPad. I'm afraid I won't be able to help with the Galaxy tablet issues.

First, since your course seems to be running properly on your colleague's devices, you may want to make sure that private browsing is disabled in Safari, on your iPad. You may find that Articulate Storyline's HTML5 output doesn't load as expected in Safari when the Private Browsing feature is enabled.

Please review the following article for more information:

HTML5 output doesn't load correctly in Safari with Private Browsing enabled

Also, there are some known issues with slides that contain audio if you have your slides set to automatically advance. Please take a look at the article below and see if the solutions listed fix the audio problem:

Articulate Support > Audio or video is missing in mobile Safari

I hope this helps! Let me know if you see any improvements on the iPad.

Thanks!

Hi again!

private browsing is disabled in Safari and I also installed the ipad  articulate player app. The audio plays but half the presentation is off the screen with no ability to scroll or resize the page. That is the only issue at the moment. (apart from it not playing at all in samsung galaxy tablet but that could be because they dont support flash weirdly for an android)

Brian.

Interesting aside: When importing powerpoints with audio tracks into Articulate with aim to upload as SCORM to Moodle - you must import the original PPT file uncompressed or else the audio wont play. When I use the 'compress media' option in powerpoint to reduce the file size, the audio wont play in Moodle after its been through Articulate. Odd bug.

Hi there Brian!

We just released Update 3 last night. There's quite a few fixes and improvements that may help with this.

If you're not running version 3 (1305.2012), please download and install the update using the link below:

Articulate - Storyline Update 3

Once you've finished installing the update, please republish and test your course on the iPad. If the problems continue after installing the update, please go ahead and share your project with us. We'd be happy to take a look and see if we experience the same issues with the presentation cutting off and the audio issue.

Thanks very much!

Hi Marie!

This thread is a bit dated.

If you are using Storyline 1, this holds true:
Storyline content may work on some Android devices. However, Articulate does not officially support Android devices or browsers. Click here to review the system requirements for authoring and viewing Storyline content.

However, you can check the viewing requirements here if you are utilizing Storyline 2 and see that there is some support for Android now.
