Pre-purchase Questions... Reporting and Emailing

Aug 04, 2012

Up until now I've been an Adobe Captivate 5.0 users but I'm ready to upgrade, either to Captivate 6 or to Storyline.  I haven't yet given Storyline much of a tryout, but I like what I see so far. I'm especially interested in being able to publish to flash, html 5, and iOS. The advantage going to Storyline over Captivate 6 because of the iOS app.

However, there is one thing I haven't been able to find in Storyline that I especially like about Captivate: widgets. There are a couple of third part widgets that give me functionality that I need to continue to have. Maybe that functionality is built into Storyline or is available through third parties, but I just haven't found it.

In particular, I'm interesting in being able to receive quiz results and user input (variables) through email and reporting. I realize an LMS can do this, but an LMS is simply too expensive for my needs. Instead, I've been using the Variables to Google Form widget and the Email Reporting widget for Captivate as a poor man's LMS.

I'm really hoping that such functionality is available for Storyline either through widgets or some other work around. If it is, I'm sold!

I'd appreciate any help in how I can have these features with Storyline.

Thanks!

Dan

Daniel,

I can't say for sure whether these widgets currently exist, but I do know that there's a burgeoning market for such things!  James Kingsley (http://frameentered.com/) often works with this type of thing.  And I know there are several others who have been developing these capabilities as well.  The Articulate community is really great in helping you get what you need, so while I can't give you a definitive answer, my hunch is that you'll have no problems getting what you need!

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I'll take a look around the frameentered site. It looks promising.

Just to clarify, though, I'm not necessarily saying I want those widgets. It would be great if the functionality was already built into Storyline so that no widgets are needed. Widgets are simply the tools I've been accustomed to using to get the results I need.
