Prevent reload on object

Dec 07, 2016

I have a video object embedded on each slide. Every time the users moves from slide to slide it is reloading the page (you can't tell it does though). The problem with this is when users hit the browser back button and it stays on the page or if they are on the first slide, it goest to a blank page. they have to hit back x amount of times (x being the number of object/slides). is there a way to fetch a new object without refreshing the page?

Hi Julie,

Thanks for that confirmation. Do you have a link to this course you could share, and better yet a copy of the .story file with even just a few slides pulled out? I'd like to take a look at what you're seeing and do some additional testing. You can upload it here using the "Add Attachment" button at the bottom of the Reply box.

here is an example. I have variables setup to activate the next button once the variable value is changed using an external javascript file that works with vimeo's api. It seems anytime the variable changes it acts as a new page so users can't use their back button on their browser to return to the previous page without hitting it multiple times.

Thanks Julie for sharing that here. I'm not able to assist with the Javascript element and the Vimeo api but when I deleted those associated video triggers and loaded to SCORM Cloud I was able to navigate between the slides with the video and without. On a revisit to a video page it stayed in the same browser window and didn't open a new one - but it is always going to reload the video itself as there isn't a bookmarking element within Storyline to connect to a web object. I also didn't see the browser back button appear within the SCORM Cloud set up as it was launching it in a new window - so perhaps you could look at setting that up within your LMS to see if you can get the browser back button to not appear?
