Sometimes my preview arrow (in the lower left controls ribbon) grays out so that I can't preview from the timeline. I know I can still preview from the primary preview button, but I need to set object timings.
If I close Storyline and reopen it, the arrow reappears. Simply saving the file or toggling between slides doesn't work.
We are running update 10. We just upgraded from SL1, and I experienced the issue periodically then too. My slides have mostly text and images timed to an audio clip.
Hi, Michelle -- Thanks for reaching out here, and may I ask if you can also please confirm that you are working locally as described here? As the article state, "Working on a network drive or an external (USB) drive can cause erratic behavior due to latency, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources." so I wanted to rule that out, if possible.
Christie, you may have solved the problem. I have always saved my files to a network drive. I'll try saving to a local drive and see if that solves the problem. Thank you!
I'm having this problem, and I work from my local drive. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes the play button is available and other times it's grayed out. Sometimes it'll be grayed out, and then it'll magically become available again. Other times, it won't come available at all. Even closing and reopening the files doesn't help. It's very annoying. I need this feature to be able to set my cue points.
We are happy to help! Which version of Storyline are you using? It sounds like this issue isn't consistent in the project you're working on. Do you see the same issue in a new project as well?
Since this is a dated discussion, it would be helpful to start by seeing the project you're working on. Would you mind uploading the .story file to us? Here's a secure upload link. After taking a look, we'll reply with our findings via email. I appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot with us!
Thanks for your response! I'm using Storyline 360, version 3.48.24159.0.
Unfortunately, I can't share the project, but even if I could, it's unlikely that you would see it occurring when you open the file. It doesn't happen all the time.
BTW, I accidentally discovered after posting this that adjusting the little zoom slider for the timeline usually makes the buttons become available again.

Hey Michelle
I used to see that some, but I have not in a while. What update are you running? Also, does your slide have a lot of media content, like video, etc.?
