Preview not working in Storyline 2

Dec 29, 2015

Hi,

The preview functionality suddenly stopped working. It was working in the morning but suddenly the preview of all existing/new storyline projects show show a blank slide, irrespective of whether I preview a slide, scene, or project. Also the audio play function/preview is not working. Attached is a screenshot of what happens when I preview a slide. Also I have reinstalled Storyline 2 as well as flash player. Would be great if you could help.

FYI.   I did not have to install a prev version of Flash and I am on W8.1.  You can try going to control panel and search "Windows Updates"?   You can google Windows 8.1 updates and find a site that has updates.  Also, try right clicking on the Start button or Windows icon (lower left) and click Search, Windows Updates.

I was just messing around and I believe the last option may have done it.  You will have to reboot/restart your computer.

Good luck.

I did all of that but, as I said in previous posts, nothing worked until I downloaded the new FLASH version, and tweaked the Chrome settings.

My updates are automatic, but I still went in and did it manually, which indicated there were no updates. So, updating is not always the answer--or at least it wasn't in my situation. :)

Hi there,

I'm having the same problem as mentioned above--my preview won't work (I just see a white screen).

In addition, though, when I'm looking at a slide, and I go to the timeline, and hit the play button, I can't see the slide that way either. Maybe that's because that's also a preview? Or is this a separate problem? Am I the only one having this problem?

I'll see if I can roll back Flash..thanks for that info.

It looks like I'm late to the party here and everyone else was noting this problem 15 days ago. Any new news?

Hi Jeffrey! Don't roll back :)

Adobe and Microsoft have fixed the Flash Player bug that broke many applications just before the new year, including Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, and Articulate Studio.

Here's how to install the latest Adobe/Microsoft update so you can preview your e-learning projects, edit videos, and launch CD-published courses again.

Hi all,

We don't have it officially documented yet - but I just installed the Windows 8 updates myself and after rebooting my system, everything seems to be previewing and working normally. This article will be updated later today if you need to follow those steps to go through the update process.  (article is within Storyline, but same steps will apply for Storyline 1 and Studio '13 in regards to Windows updates).

Hi Jeffrey,

You'll see my reply a few pages back - but this was fixed yesterday across the board of Windows environments. That article above has been updated now so you can follow that to go through the Windows updates to fix Flash.

I think where some of the frustration may come in with some folks is that we keep linking back to the instructions to update Windows. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work (as was the case with me).  If you automatically update Windows, then you will already have all the updates. Even when I went in an manually updated Windows it did not work.  It was not until I ventured onto other forums where I found the answer that worked for me: Manually update FLASH directly from the ADOBE SITE--not through Microsoft! (Oh..and I had to make a tweak to Chrome, too.)

Just a reminder that one link does not fix all. :)

Hi,

I am STILL not able to use preview and I've done everything recommended. I have downloaded and installed version FP20 for Chromium PPAPI and I have changed the Flash settings security settings to "always allow SWF and FLV content to use older security settings." I have rebooted twice now. I am in the middle of a big project with a deadline. Any other suggestions??

Thanks!

One option that worked for me until auto windows update (shared by another user late Dec)...if your issue is the same: open Start > Control Panel > Programs & Features > View installed update links > check if you see KB3132372 in your list > right click uninstall. Reboot your pc....this allowed me to preview again. However no issues since fix was delivered last Tuesday.
Hope this helps. K

Thank you Leslie for your quick response!  Thank you Steve for yours as well.  Had restarted twice, attempted to open older and current files, and did also find the fix information via the link Leslie provided prior to posting here, however my system said 'no updates' in the control panel.  I then uninstalled Adobe Flash and reinstalled and restarted, still no luck.  Then, when accessing Adobe Flash from Start (right click) > Programs and Features to check my version, I found a notification there that 21 updates were required!!  Applied updates, restarted and voila!!

Am now back up and running, however quite concerned that an outside application error/update can take down Articulate Storline 2 like this ... very concerning ...

Thank you again to Leslie and Steve for responding :)
