I have a story which consists of 7 slides, 1.1 - 1.7 which when I preview does work fine. The problem I have is about the menu visible on the left, it only shows 5 slides in the list, 1.3 and 1.4 are missing. Any ideas why? I have restarted storyline but this didn't make a difference.

Player > Menu > click the folder icon to add the slides you wish to the menu.

You just need to reset your menu.
Please go to Home tab>Player>Menu. and select reset from story option present lower right of the menu settings.
After that click OK and preview your file, your menu will display every slide from your file.
