Previous button freezes screen

Feb 13, 2018

I have a few projects that I created late last year, before the recent Storyline updates. At that time they all worked perfectly, but now when I republish them I have an issue where when using the previous button, the screen freezes and you can just see the spinning icon.

I have tried using a different player to see if that would help, but it still has the issue.

I have tried playing the module just on my desktop and it still has the same problem, so it is definitely not an LMS issue.

It seems to freeze on slides that precede quiz questions - so previous works when going backwards through quiz questions, but then when it gets to regular slides before the quiz questions, it freezes.

Are there any suggestions on how to fix this?

NOTE: This issue has arisen in projects that I created before the recent Storyline updates came out. Prior to the updates, this was not an issue in these modules.

All,
I am having the same issue as John.  I am observing crashes/freezes when using the previous/next button to navigate through scenes within a screen recording "view" segment.  After adding some dummy layers that jump to a previous slide when their timeline starts and triggering their parent slide to show the corresponding dummy layer when previous is clicked/swiped, I was able to improve the performance somewhat.  Specifically, now I can navigate back and forth through the scene ONCE using next/previous without inducing a freeze/crash.  The second time through, however, the player freezes.
I'm at the limits of my troubleshooting capability.  This is definitely a bug.  Please help.

Sincerely,
Paul

Leslie,
I just figured it out.  I thought that all of my slides in the screen recording scenes were set to advance automatically and "return to initial state" when revisiting.  They weren't.

Many of the slides were set to "automatically decide" when revisiting.  My guess is that this caused a balloon of cached data as I skipped through slides without viewing them completely.  Eventually the system would freeze up.

I went through and made sure all of the slides were set to "reset to initial state" when revisiting.  On my latest preview, I was able to navigate freely and constantly using prev/next and the navigation menu.  Try as I might, I couldn't make it freeze.  Whew!  Time to publish and deliver.

Sincerely,
Paul
