Previous button not working as wanted between scenes.

Jul 15, 2014

Hi,

I have created a short example of my problem here:

http://www.thelearningpharmacy.com/hotspots/previousbuttontest/story.html

If you use the forward button you can go 1 to 6 in sequence or if you only go to 3 you can use the previous button 3,2,1.

However if you go to 4 (the beginning of the new scene) and click previous it will take you to 3 but then click previous and it will take you back to 4 and then you are in a loop of 3,4 until you use the menu to get out of the loop. The forward button will only allow you to go to 3,4,5

Obviously in more complex programmes with multiple scenes this can present problems especially if you decide not to have a menu. The only way I can see around it is to create triggers for each slide which 'names' the previous slide. In my current project I have about 14 scenes and 140 slides.

Any ideas?

Hello Maurice - this is the way the logic for the Prev button has been designed. It is intended to take the user back to the last slide they visited (in the same way the back button works on your web browser).

If you want the Prev button to go back along a linear path, then you have to manually edit the Prev trigger on every slide and tell it specifically which slide to jump to.

Hi Maurice and welcome to Heroes!

I'm glad Nancy was able to assist you here, and I just wanted to share that this behavior is documented here in the sense that:

The default trigger for the Prev button, which jumps to the last visited slide, is hidden in Articulate Storyline. If you customize the Prev button with an additional trigger—for example, to adjust a variable—it replaces the default trigger. As a result, you'll need to add another trigger to restore the default Jump to previous slide functionality.
