Print and Save Survey Results

Mar 12, 2014

When creating a series of Survey questions, I see that you can add a Print button to the Survey Results slide. Can you also Save a "results" file? If so, how do you do that?

In addition, is there a way to access a person's survey results if you are using Articulate Online to post the survey questions?

Hi Lisa and welcome to Heroes!

The "Print results" feature will generate an html page with the information, and at that point it's up to the user to print their browser or choose to save it as a PDF or HTML page. You may want to include some additional instructions within your slide on what their options are and how to proceed with printing the browser.

As far as viewing the results, Articulate Online will allow you to view survey results, and there are a few different report types as indicated here.

Ashley, can you tell me how to insert the Print results feature?  I have a survey of 16 questions that are broken up into 4 groups.  Each group is a specific metric used to gauge performance (e.g., Communication, Team Work, etc.).  So once the user goes through each section, they should have 4 numbers as "grades" for each of those attributes.

The final slide of my survey is the Total Values slide, where it lists out each of the categories the user was surveyed on and spits out their "grade" as a number.  There would be 4 final grades in the slide, one for each attribute.  But I need to print out that last slide so that the user can bring the results with them.  Ideally it'd be great to have it emailed to the user as well but printing is the priority.

Are you able to help me resolve this?

Hi Daniel,

I'd love to help.

You can look at two options for printing in Storyline:

1. Enable the Print results button on a results slide - this will print the results associated with the questions that slide is tracking (if you're tracking results slides with a master results slide it won't include the question/answers and how the user answered). You'll see that the print is generated as a new HTML page.

OR

2.  Look at options to print a slide/page as the user sees it using Javascript. I'd have to defer to the ELH community of experts on this one, as I can't help with Javascript - but a quick search of "storyline print page javascript" should give you a lot of info! You can also take a look at our Javascript best practices here.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for such quick feedback.  I have successfully printed out the results to the questions I want reported, but they're showing columns that I don't want.  The Correct Answer, Point Value are two... but there are others as well.

Can you tell me more about either how to modify what appears on the printed results?  You mentioned a master results slide... I'm not familiar with how to create one of those.

Thanks.

Hi Daniel,

If you want to modify it the best bet is to do it within the report.html file that's generated as a part of the published output. It's not something I can assist with - but you can start with the steps here that folks have used to edit it to make certificates and go from there.

The master results slide would have to track other results slides and then would only show overall scores for the user based on the choices of:

How to combine results from multiple quizzes

If you're struggling with what to edit in the report.html - I'd suggest asking for community help by sharing what you want to change! The Building Better Courses side of ELH tends to focus more on design and how to.
