I want to utilise the tool on storyline where you can type in the answers to a series of questions.
For instance, i will have a heading that says "Structure" then give the chance for the learner to write what they think the answer is for this section.
Once they have written their answer for all sections i wanted them to be able to print off what they have typed to compare to an actual example of what they are doing.
Is this even possible or is there a way to do this if my way isn't possible.
If you're using standard quiz questions and a results slide there is an option to print from the results slide and it will generate an HTML page with their answers. It'll be able to the user to then print or save the file.
For this and the option Kamil indicated, you'll want to test them in the intended environment as described here.

Yes, it is possible. You can open external page with your html website and here using javascript get variables from SL, something like that:
<script>
var player = window.opener.GetPlayer();
var learnerName = player.GetVar("fullName").replace(/(\r\n|\r|\n)/g, '<br />');
</script>
