Printing help needed

Jun 22, 2014

Hi - I'm using Storyline to create some clinical reasoning skills tools. They work like this: a medical student is presented with a case and asked what they think is happening, they type out their response and then they can view a clinicians response to see how their response compares to the clinicians. I've created this using essay questions as the student responses are quite long. Thats all good but at the end I need for the student to be able to print the results showing both their response and the clinicians response. I can only get it to show the students response on the printable results page. Can anyone help me to get the contents of the clinicians response text box to show up in the "Correct answer" column of the print page?

Hi Chris,

Are you able to edit the Results page?   I haven't used it for this type of purpose before.

If so just insert a text box with a reference to the text variable containing the clinician response.

The variables will be listed via the X button on the right had side of the screen.

Alternatively, can you upload the .story file and I can take a look.

This is assuming the text entered by the clinician is stored in a separate variable which I think should be the case

Hi Andrew ...thanks very much for your help. I can edit the results.html page but i'm a bit of a noob at JS so am struggling a bit with the details but what you describe makes sense in theory. I have attached the .story file ...any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Chris,

Have a look at the new scene I have made just so I could add a Quizzing (Free Form - Text Entry) slide instead of a normal quizzing slide.

I have then linked this directly to the results slide and changed the start slide to the newly created one.  (You can delete this scene without affecting your original slides once you have your head around it).

What I have done with the Text entry slide is to have the clinician response in the correct answer area and this does show up on the print results next to the text entered by the learner.

However it does not allow for scoring in this case as they have to have the clinicians response exactly right to get the question correct.   Not sure if you are scoring them in this case but assume you aren't given the idea is to compare responses.

Alternatively editing the results HTML is an option but we are both JS noobs and I am feeling my way thru HTML as well and I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction but there are some links here to get you started.

http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/12471.aspx html certificate (you could modify this to a results HTML doc).

I am currently working on a HTML certificate and another HTML doc with varying failures but happy to assist if you go down that path. Am learning alot about JS and HTML due to this.

Let me know how you go and keep in touch if you decide to tackle the HTML and JS.

Hi Andrew - thanks so much for your help on this - its really appreciated. Only problem is there is a 250 character limit on the free form quiz text entry. I think I somehow need to marry the result of the quiz with the input of the survey (essay response) in the report.html file. You may have given me enough to get started if i take a look at how your solution is capturing the "correct answer". I'm ok with HTML but the JS is a big hole in my skillset so maybe ill dig in and see what i can come up with. Will let you know if i have any success! Thanks again Andrew

Hi Chris,

Happy to help, or at least get you started with other options.

If you have the clinicians response in a text variable you could use this to call it into a HTML document (report.html).

The creating a certificate link would be a good start to look at the javascript on calling variable from storyline to HTML doc.

As stated earlier I am working on this now but via an LMS so it is not working for me yet, I suspect it is the LMS.

Am sure we will get the JS and HTML stuff worked out.

If I have success will also let you know.

Cheers

Andrew
