The possibility exists that this might be caused by some changes within Storyline Update 3, but it's only affecting a subset of clients.
I have created Articulate Support Case Number 00340793 on your behalf. I will be following the Case closely, and you should expect to hear from a member of our team very shortly!
Yep, I've had this problem since Update 2, but it got worse with Update 3. I've tried all the suggested solutions, and it's still an issue for me, unfortunately :(
Reboot my computer, open Microsoft Word, create and save a sample file, and close Microsoft Word. Then, test - didn't solve the problem.
Repaired Microsoft Office
Repaired Storyline
Uninstalled Microsoft Office and reinstalled Uninstalled Storyline and reinstalled according to Articulate directions when Storyline is erratic. I actually did not install the update and I am still getting the same issue.
I am really at a loss here...is there anything else I can give you to help me figure this out?
I'm really sorry for the continued trouble, Cindy.
Within Storyline, please click the Help tab, then click About Articulate Storyline. Take a screen capture of the resulting pop-up window, and attach it to your reply in this Forum Thread. Thanks!
I just encountered the same issue today with my Samsung Series 7 running Windows 8. I haven't had any problems publishing to MS Word on my HP laptop running Windows 7 (Storyline Update 3).
Our QA Team has confirmed this behavior, and we are working on a fix for the next Storyline update. We'll keep this thread updated with any developments. Thanks!
Sorry to hear that you're running into this issue as well. I haven't seen anything yet that confirms the issue only occurs with the 64-bit version of Office, but that would be good to know :)
I was able to find your support case (#00343079) for my reference. Looks like Jayem is already working on the case. You should receive a response from him soon.
I'll also keep an eye on the case and try to follow up with you here on the forums.
6. Right-click the installation file, and select Run asadministrator 7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installationprocess 8. Reboot your computer
Please create a new project first and test if this willwork.
The same issue still occurred, word is asking for template to be saved and a word doc publish is not created.
Hi Byron! As you can see, nothing has popped up on this yet. It may be best to follow up in the case (#00343079) that you were working on so that support is aware that your issue is not resolved. Thanks so much and have a great day!

Just updated version 3 of Storyline

Hello again, David.
Let's reboot the machine, open Microsoft Word, create and save a sample file, and close Microsoft Word. Then, test for resolution of the problem.
If this doesn't help, can you please detail your current status in a Support Case so that we can get you some one-on-one help? Thanks!
Good Afternoon, Cindy!
I see that you are working with John Say on this issue via Articulate Support Case Number 00340713, which I am now following as well.
Please be sure to respond to John's most recent email so that he can continue to help you. Thanks!
Justin,
Glad you are with me.
Rebooted again. Opened Word, Created a file saved it to my Articulate folder no problem.
Went back into Storyline, opened my "test file" (three pages, no graphics, no quizzes) and tried to publish it
Been watching the "blue circle" spinning for 5 minutes now....and the same message about access pops up.
I feel dumb...
Dave

Hi I have the same issue on win 7 with office 2013,
strangely enough my colleague can now publish to word on his computer even though he was unable to do so before.
He has made no significant changes.
I have lodged the issue, I also noticed that in taskmanager the processes WINWORD.EXE remains running.even after closing word down.
Also wondering if the publish issue is only happening to people who have office on 64 bit?
regards
Byron

The following suggested solution did not work.
Could you try thefollowing steps to see if this will solve the publish to MS Word issue:
Let us perform a repair installation to resolve theissue. Here's how:
1. Uninstall Storyline using Windows' Add/Remove programs2. Download the Storyline Update 2 installer and save on your desktop:
http://files.articulate.com/~j2/Builds/Update_2/storyline.zip
3. Restart your computer
4. Turn off your anti-virus program
5. Close all running programs
6. Right-click the installation file, and select Run asadministrator 7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installationprocess 8. Reboot your computer
Please create a new project first and test if this willwork.
The same issue still occurred, word is asking for template to be saved and a word doc publish is not created.
Kind regards

This issue applies to Quizmaker '09 and MS Word '10 with Windows 7 as well.
Still looking for resolution after 6 months of trying different things.
If ANYONE has found a fix for this, please let us know.
I have opened a case and hope we get to the root.
Hi Natalie! I see where you submitted your case (00367139) and you should be hearing from someone soon. I will follow along as well
Oh, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
I am having the same issue I can publish some files to word as outputs but not others even after completely closing down and rebooting my computer?
