Problem running SCORM courses through Saba on iPad with iOS 9.2.1

Mar 01, 2016

Background: Client is running a course created in Storyline 1 with the iOS 9 patch on a Saba LMS. Works fine with iPads running with iOS versions prior to latest 9.2.1.

Problem: When iPads were updated to latest OS (iOS 9.2.1), no visual content is displayed, but audio runs.  Course runs fine outside of the LMS, but that is not the SCORM version.

I have asked the client to test the course on the SCORM Cloud but haven't heard back yet (don't expect a response for a day or two).

Is there a Storyline 1 patch for iOS 9.2.1?

HI Russell,

It sounds like you previously used the patch mentioned here, but I haven't heard of any other issues associated with iOS 9.2.1 - so we'll definitely want to know if you or the client is able to test at SCORM Cloud to see how it behaves there. If everything works normally you'll want to reach out to Saba to see if they've had issues with that latest update to iOS. If it doesn't work as expected at SCORM Cloud either, can you share the .story file with us to take a look? You can either upload it here or send it along to our Support engineers here.

Thank you Ashley for your response. After some more testing and also using SCORM Cloud, I discovered and solved the problem. The issue with my client's iPads was related to the Storyline Player app. When I re-published the course and turned off the Player App option, the client was able to run the course on those same iPads.  So, there may be an issue with the app running on the iOS 9.2.1 platform.  Sounds like Articulate has some homework to do.  In case it helps, the client is using the Saba LMS (not sure if they are using the latest version or not).

Thanks again, Russell Lash

Hi Russell,

Did it work on that set up in SCORM Cloud or just within the Saba environment is where you're having the difficulty? With the player app not included as a part of the publish settings, and using SCORM Cloud and accessing on iOS 9.2.1 I have not seen any new issues when Storyline has been published using the latest update.

Hi Ashley, For our internal testing, we had problems running the course from SCORM Cloud. We kept getting errors indicating something about the player (my manager did the testing since I don't have an iPad so don't know the exact message she received). That was the clue. When I turned of the Player option in the Publish dialog window, her iPad had no problem launching the course from SCORM Cloud.  Our client, on the other hand, was never able to get the course to run from SCORM Cloud (they kept getting a file not found error message), but when I by passed the cloud with them and sent them the SCORM zip file, it loaded and ran cleanly for them. Of course, the course now was pure HTML5 and not trying to call the Storyline Player app.

Hi Russell,

It sounds like you may not have been publishing for Tin Can API but including the Articulate Mobile player as an option? If so, the content wouldn't launch as expected within the Mobile player. Using only the HTML5 output should allow you to launch in Safari.

As far as sending the link to your client, perhaps it was the wrong set up/link within SCORM Cloud that you were sharing? But it sounds like they were able to upload the file and test it themselves and have it work successfully which is exactly what we want to hear! :)
