Problem with importing translated text in to a question bank
Jan 03, 2017
Hello,
I am struggling with my first attempt to translate a course I have created. I have imported the text and the majority of the content has come out fine, a few minor tweeks to text sizes, colours etc. was all the was required. The course contains a number of question banks. One of these banks will not translate. I have checked the Word file I am importing and I am sure the text is in there. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I know if it comes down to it I can put the text in manually but I really don't want to do that if I can avoid it!
Thank you ever so much for your help!
Kind Regards
Georgina

Hey Georgina
hard to say without seeing your files.
Not sure what you mean by 'I have checked the Word file I am importing and I am sure the text is in there'
Hello,
Here is the Storyline file and the Word file I have imported. It seems to just be the final question bank that isn't working.
Thank you so much for contacting me :-)
Kind Regards
Georgina
Hi Georgina
It does seem to be missing that last QB. Do you have the translation document on your local drive? It might be having a problem if you are trying to import from a network, external or usb drive.
I would take a backup of your .story file and try re-importing the document to see if that works. If not, log a support ticket and get the Articulate guys to take a look for you.
Good luck - sorry I couldn't be more help to you.
Hi Georgina! Sorry to hear you're having these issues with importing translated text. If you do decide to open a support case, please share your case number here so I can follow along and post updates to this thread as they are available. :)
Hello,
Thank you - I moved the location of my files and after a couple of attempts where it told me it was an invalid Word file it then worked!
The only problem I now have it some of the variables seem to be different to the English version and now my question count and the results slide in the quiz don't work. I feel out of my depth now! Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you so much again!
Kind Regards
Georgina
Hey Georgina
try adding a text box on the result slide and adding in the english version of the variables - this is what is being referenced in the triggers. The variables should only be returning values and if you need to add a word in german you could do so.
Hope that makes sense.
Hello,
I'm really sorry but I don't understand. I have checked the variables in both my English and my German versions and there are differences in the use count (screen shots attached). I don't understand what ahs changed as I took a copy of the English and imported the German text. I assumed this side of everything would stay the same.
Sorry!
Thank you - all of the text is now imported but I am having trouble with the variables.
Hi Georgina,
I am not sure why the variables would change after importing the German text, so I have contacted our Support Engineers to investigate this further. I opened a case on your behalf (case# 00985540 for my reference), and you should hear from one of the engineers shortly!
Hello,
Thank you so much to everyone for your help. I think everything is now working.
For the results slide I deleted it and inserted a new one and now it works.
The variable stopped working because when I imported the text it translated the variable name. I put these back to English and now they are working.
Thank you ever so much again!
Kind Regards
Georgina
Great news Georgina - glad you got it sorted. Good luck with your project!
Thank you :-)
