Problem with imsmanifest

Sep 13, 2018

I have troubles publishing to LMS. The error message says that the manifest couldn't be extracted. Possible cause: Coding in XML-document (manifest) before root element is not correctly formulated (I hope it makes sense, the error message is translated from swedish).

I'm very new to Storyline and I don't have a clue to what this means. Can anyone help? :)

Hi Sofie, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community! We're glad you're here. 😀

Are you seeing this error when you're publishing or when you upload your course to the LMS? Can you let me know what publishing options you used as well, and the version/update of Storyline you're running? You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline".

If you're only seeing the error when uploading to your LMS, it's worth checking how that same course behaves in another LMS environment, such as SCORM Cloud. It's free and easy to use, take a look at the details here.

Let me know how your testing going and if you're still stuck, share your .story file and I'm happy to help!

Hi Sofie,

If it worked in SCORM Cloud that's a good sign that something is off between your LMS and how it's reading this Storyline file. You mentioned having uploaded other files to your LMS, was there anything different about how those were published? Would your LMS admin be able to help track down any differences?

Also, it sounds like you're a number of updates back on Storyline. I'd recommend installing the latest update too (Build 3.19.16600.0) as you'll see noted here.

Ok! I used the same publishing settings for the other files.
Yesterday I also tried to copy the content over to a new file and upload that but it didn't work either. Makes me wonder if there is something within the file causing the problem...

I'll see if the LMS admin can help. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

Thanks!

Hi Sofie,

The file looked fine to me, and also as you saw worked once uploaded to SCORM Cloud (you can view mine here). I thought it may help if you tried uploading my published output to your LMS, incase there is something different with our publishing process. It's attached here, and I didn't change any settings. Here's a screenshot at my settings.

Let me know if that helps!
