Problem with .swf files in HTML5

Jun 09, 2017

Hi everyone,
I have a huge issue with .swf files. I work with Storyline 2, I want to publish my work on LMS platform. When I preview on my computer everything works good, but when I insert it on LMS platform, the file doesn't work. I know that HTML5 doesn't work with .swf files. But maybe there is any solution to fix my problem. Maybe change the code? delete any file? do anything? maybe change Storyline 2 to Storyline 3? or change the system :D
I must change too many presentation from previous company and it took me 20 years doing it manually.

Best regards

Hey Karolina!

Sorry this is causing you so many headaches. You're right, .swf Flash files are only going to work in the Flash output.

If you want your users to only see the Flash version, your best option will be to uncheck the "include HTML5 output" when publishing here:

Let me know if you have any further questions! ☺️

Hi Karolina,

I'm sorry that the SWF files are causing some problems when uploaded to your  Learning Management System (LMS). I'd love to help and track down what's happening and offer any ideas!

Can you share a bit more information:

  • What LMS are you using? Have you also tested it in SCORM Cloud? Its a standard for LMS testing and this article will walk you through how.
  • What browser(s) are you viewing it in? Do you know if your LMS or browser is blocking the Flash content? Storyline 2 supports Flash and HTML5 content in the browsers here.
  • What happens when you view the course? Does the entire course not play, or just certain elements where the SWF file was inserted on a slide?

If you can share the .story file, that will help me take a look at it too! Use the "Add Attachment" button to upload it here to the forum discussion.
