Problem with text boxes

I have an issue when inserting a text box. It seems that when I insert a text box, the entire program slows down and drags. It takes a couple of seconds before the box fully appears on the screen, and as I type, the letters appear a couple of seconds later and fill extremely slowly, to the point where the text box is almost unusable. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it kills productivity.

Anybody have similar issues or know of a fix?
