Problem with timing using type questions

Mar 10, 2017

I recently created a storyline with 5 type questions followed by matching questions.  I did not specify any timing and yet as soon as students started typing the answer - storyline immediately jumped to the next slide.  For example, the first answer was evacuation, yet as soon as students typed e-v-a-c the slide jumped.

It was created in storyline 360, published to articulate tempshare and shared with students.  Here is the (10 day) link.

Thanks for any advice,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Can we get a copy of your .story file to take a look at what's happening here? You’ll want to upload the .story file here (which is the file prior to publishing) using the “ADD ATTACHMENT” button at the bottom of the forums reply window. If you’d prefer to not share in the public forums you’re always welcome to share with our Support Engineers here. They’re available 24/7 to assist!

Hi Ashley,

Here is the storyline file for the timing issue as mentioned in the above post.  I have actually had quite a few issues with storyline not working properly and am wondering if it is because of articulate tempshare??  The dial would not work when one teacher trialled it and yet would work when I used it.  On another storyline with drop down menu questions, incorrect slides were showing instead of correct.  When I checked the file it was all set up accurately.

Is there any other alternative than using articulate tempshare to trial storyline content with potential users?  I don't want to upload files to our LMS (blackboard) as my school is trying to limit the amount of projects on blackboard.  And it seems an unnecessary step merely to trial projects.

Thanks,

Hello Steven - Thanks for sharing your file and allowing us to take a look. It looks like you have a trigger on each slide to Jump to the next slide when the timeline ends. That explains the behavior your users are seeing, not the environment they are viewing this in.

If you remove this trigger from the slides, it will wait on your submission as it sounds like you are expecting.

Hi Ashley,
Ok that is a solution, but I did not manually include any triggers at all in any of those slides. So, in future I will have to go in and disable an in-built trigger function each time I design a storyline? That does seem like a software flaw.

Hi Steve - I first want to mention that replying to the forums via e-mail attaches your e-mail here. You are welcome to pop in and edit if needed.

It looks like you are utilizing a Free-Form Text Entry Question slide in your example. If I insert a new slide into your project, I'm not seeing that trigger attached.

Are you utilizing a template or copy/paste? If you are able to replicate, please let me know the steps so that I can take a closer look.
