problems embedding videos
Aug 14, 2013
Hi there,
since a while, I have problems, embedding videos (i.e from youtube). After pasting the embedding code in the window and then clicking on "insert", it takes quite a while and then I get the message that the navigation to the website has been interrupted. Has anyone an idea, why it doesn't work any more? I haven't change anything on my computer, neither in storyline itself (as far as I know). Thanks a lot for your help!
Annika

This may be because your embed code is for a playlist, not just a single video. If I use the embed code for the one video only:
"www.youtube.com/embed/7JgIbK50_Zw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>" it works fine.
Hello Michael,
great, it works, thanks a lot!
Annika, good to hear that the video works for you now. PS: Jetzt weiss ich endlich was "CSR" bedeutet
Hi Annika! I wanted to welcome you to E-Learning Heroes! Glad Michael was able to assist you here and just let us know if you need anything further.
Thanks Michael!
now I have the same problem again, whats wrong?
(In general it's only working, when I use the old embedding codes, but some videos don't support the old codes any more, like this one) Do I have to update my articulate version?
Who can help????
Best regards,
Annika
Anika, here is a test file with the YouTube video from your original post, it works fine for me. I just used the standard embed code from the YouTube site. I don't think your issues have anything to do with the version of Storyline, but with the videos themselves. Maybe the links have changed?
Anika, when I looked at your post, the bitmap with the vimeo embed code didn't show up for some reason. I added the vimeo video to my test file, see here.
Hello Michael,
that's so strange, I have no idea what to do now. I mean, what else can I do than copying the embedding code and pasting it in the embedding field... Puh.
articulate update didn't help :-(
Annika, I suggest you post your file here for community folks to review or open a support case with Articulate. For what it's worth, here is the file I used to test your links.
Hi Annika,
If you'd like our team to take a look you can share your files here with us.
Hi,
I am having a similar problem embedding Vimeo videos. At first I was getting an error message and now when I try to embed the video all I get is a blank iframe. I have embedded videos from Vimeo in past projects with no problem.
Laura
Hi Laura,
First, you'll want to make sure you're testing the video by publishing it and placing it within the intended environment, as trying to test it locally could cause you to encounter local security restrictions.
I saw a similar thread, where Michael shared a few different ways of which we was able to embed a Vimeo video. Could you share a bit more about how you're trying to embed it and we can try it ourselves here if you'd also like to share a link to the video.
Hi Ashley,
The error is occurring when I try to embed the video by copying the embed code into the "insert video from website" function in storyline. I have tried multiple times with different videos including ones that have worked in the past. I have also tried inserting it as a web object and that didn't work either. There was a recent windows update and I know another person who wasn't able to embed video after the updates. They had to revert back to the previous version to get it to work. I am not sure if this is the issue I am having or not. I am using the most recent VMware to run Articulate Storyline.
Here is the embed code for the video
Here is the link to the video: http://vimeo.com/21405948
Hi Laura,
Thanks for sharing - I was able to insert it as a Video -> Video from Website with the embed code that I pulled off of the site. If you'd like to see my published version it is posted here: http://aterwilliger.articulate-online.com/9369955181
I'm using Windows 8, and tested the published content in Google Chrome. Are you able to view my published version?
Hi Ashley,
I was able to view your published version and I appreciate your help. I am currently using Windows 7. I restored it to the state before the recent updates and I am now able to embed video again with no problem.
Thanks again.
Laura
Thanks for the update Laura
Hi everyone!
Any idea why I might be having trouble embedding this link from ABC news? It would be perfect for my students. Thanks so much for any advice!!

Hi Leslie,
Can you see problem with this link? I am trying to embed it and am having no luck.
Thanks!
Al
There is nothing wrong wit the embed code, you just need to publish your project, see here a quick test with your embed code: http://dev.keypointlearn.com/xcl73_SL2/ABC/V1/story.html
Thanks Michael - also when you publish your project you'll want to test within the intended publish environment as described here.
Thanks but when I publish the content the slide the video is supposed to be on is just blank. When I clicked on your link "a quick test with your embeded code" the player comes up yet nothing plays.
Any ideas?
Hi Al,
Michael's example plays for me (there is a commercial first). I am using Chrome ver. 39. Can you confirm that you're using a supported browser and flash version?
I'm on IE 11 and it works for me.
