Problems publishing to Word

Nov 03, 2015

Hi,

I have a problem I can't work arround and would really appreciate to hear if anyone else have had the same problem.

I can't publish my story to Word. When choosing Word as the output and clicking "Publish", Articulate either stop responding, or a few times I've gotten an error dialogue saying there's a problem and I should check I have Microsoft Word 2000 (I have 2003). I'm using a Windows 8 computer.

Anyone recognising this?

Hi Carmel,

Are you trying to publish to Word or export to word? Did you already confirm that you're working locally and publishing locally as described above? What occurs when you try to publish to word? What version of Office are you using, you'll want to make sure you're using one of the supported options mentioned here.

If you're still having difficulty we're happy to take a look at the .story file.

HI Ashley,
Thanks for getting back so promptly - I am trying to publish to word (for SME review)
Yes working locally and have just had SL2 re-installed to try to fix the problem. (I will double check that all the requirements are in place)

In the meantime I have attached the .story file

Hi Carmel,

Responding via email does not include attachments here, so you'll need to visit the forum thread to upload it here for us to take a look at. Also, when you reply via email it does include your signature so you're welcome to edit the post and remove that information if you'd like. You'll see the "Edit" button just below your own posts.

Thanks for that Ashley - I have been chasing our IT dept and they advise me that;

  • "You have win 7 sp1 32bit
  • .NET 4.0
  • Adobe Flash 19 (latest)
  • Microsoft Office 2010 32bit
  • RE google that is for viewing content if you do not have flash you need google chrome.  You have flash installed thus no need for google chrome. "

When I try to open your file I get the 'Flash player 10 or higher for Internet Explorer is required to run Articulate Storyline' message again !!!

Terribly frustrating - Publishing to WORD is great for subjenmct matter experts who have to sign off on some online quizzes that we are building, otherwise they khave to go through the quiz several times to check all the 'wrong' answers !

Again many thanks for you patience and assistance : )

Kind regards

Carmel

Hi Carmel,

The adobe error message that you mentioned was something fixed in a recent update of Studio '13 and Storyline. Do you know which update you're running? You can determine that by opening up Quizmaker and looking at the Help tab -> About Quizmaker and you'll see it there. Update 7 is the latest update and the one which I published that to Word with. You can review the release notes and download the update here.

I don't know that I've ever seen that error message when trying to open a .doc file though? That would certainly be odd. If you've already looked to confirm you're using the latest update and and did the repair I'd like to have you connect with our Support engineers to go through some more detailed worked. Please reference this thread so that they're aware what you already went through and let me know the case # so I can follow along as well.

Thanks Ashley, I am using Storyline 2 to build my quizzes, so not sure about the Quizmaker piece.

I have found a workaround for publishing to word, instead of choosing the 'view the document' option, I save as a zip file and then open with WORD. It has solved the issue with my subject matter experts !

My guy in our IT dept is on leave at the moment so I will have to wait until he gets back to sort the other issue.

Kind regards

Carmel

Sorry Carmel - I don't know why I was thinking Quizmaker! The same situation applies though in terms of the Storyline update - and you'll follow the same steps to check Help -> About Storyline and you're looking for update 10 and the release notes/download is here.

I'm glad you've got a workaround, did you test just browsing for the Word file and then opening it directly from there? Is it just the "view document" option from Storyline's publish successful window that doesn't work?

Carmel McShea

Hi Ashley, yes,  its just in the view document option - it used to work perfectly fine, so thats why it threw me, and because it doesnt appear in the folder as a word. doc , Hey ho. I will get the latest update as soon as I can.

Thanks a million for all your help - I am the sole user in my organisation at thje moment so couldnt manage without you guys !

Kind regards

Carmel
