Problems with continue button that appears after answering a quiz question

Sep 09, 2015

I have a storyline project that has four quiz question slides built in. I am so new to storyline and having the hardest time trying to get things to work. I would like for the user to return to the table of contents after answering the question and hitting continue. I also want the check marks to appear on the table of contents indicating the activity has been completed. I have been trying to get this to work for most of the day and am not getting anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

Hi Erin,

Thanks for sharing your .story file here with us. Have you looked at modifying the triggers associated with the continue button on the incorrect/correct feedback layers vs. using the continue button on the base layer? Also for your checkmarks, you're setting it up based on when the timeline starts, but you've also set it to "automatically decide" as the slide property and instead I'd look at using the "reset to initial state" so that the slide starts a new each time and adjusts the state of the objects as needed.

Ashley,

Thank you so much for replying. I am really new to Storyline and easily confused. When the user answers the question and the "Continue" button appears, what layer is that integrated into? And how do I change it from making the slide advance to a different quiz rather than the table of contents? Is the base layer "continue" button creating problems with teh continue button that appears after the question has been answered?

Hi Erin,

It's associated with the feedback layers for each question, the correct and incorrect layers. So the set up you have if the user clicks "continue" on the base  layer before seeing the feedback layer, they won't actually have submitted the question and if they try to click it while on the feedback layers it seems that you set it up to prevent the user from clicking on the base layer. You could adjust the trigger associated with the feedback layers continue buttons to say when clicked to jump to your table of contents slide. Here is additional information on using the Storyline feedback layers.
