Problems with display correct initial state.

Sep 24, 2013

Hi all.

I'm having a problem about the normal state.

I've created a normal state that displays different figures. this is also my initial state.

It's like the program forgets all the figures I've created in the normal state after the initial one.

Then I've made a second state for this. With only one figure.

I've set a trigger to show the second state on mouse over on the figure, however, when I drag the mouse out, and it is supposed to return to normal state, some of my figures don't display.

Solution?

Hi Kenneth,

From the images you shared, I'm not sure I am following what it going on. Are you able to post the .story file here for us to look at? If you'd prefer to not post it in the forums, you're welcome to share it with our Support team as well. I also wanted to point you to this tutorial on editing/adding states to objects.

Hi Ashley.

I think my current storyfile would be to awkward to navigate in.

My main problem is this:

1. I add an object, and then edit in this normal mode. In my case adding og deleting objects/text etc.

This is what I want to show initialy.

2. Then I add a 2. state (a textbox), which is triggered by a mouse over trigger.

3. After the mouse over (and return to normal state) the object I've added to the normal mode dosen't  show up??? (even so it is displayed  in the small state thumpnail)

The initial normal state with 2 objects (image and text)

The image in return to normal after displaying state 2. But now the text object has gone. (Even so it is displayed  in the small state thumpnail)

Please help it's so frustrating...

Best regards Kenneth

Hi Kenneth,

It's hard to say for certain without looking at the file, but the images show that everything is set up as I would and should work correctly. Some things that can cause erratic behavior in Storyline are:

  • Work on your localdrive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can causeerratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and otherunexpected behavior.
  • You should also makesure the directory path to your project files and your published output is lessthan 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using specialcharacters, accents or symbols in your file names.

You may need to conduct a repair of your Storyline software as described here.

If you're able to share even just that one slide it may help us determine what's happening - and you're also welcome to share it with our team here.
