Problems with HTML5

Oct 31, 2012

Hi.

I just downloaded the 30 day trial and "played" around with it. As long as I use a device with Flash enabled, everything works fine. But I need to support devices, that only use HTML5 so I need it to work on that too.

The problem is, that it seems to run poorly on HTML5. It's slow, not all functions/buttons work, unexpected things happen, when I select an answer to a question in a quiz, and so on.

Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong, or is there a list of things, I need to know, when publishing to HTML5?

Hi Kristian, welcome to Heroes!

That's a great question, and thanks for posting it. As it's still relatively new and immature, HTML5 has some inherent limitations. This article compares the Storyline features that are supported in the Flash Player, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad, helping you to achieve your desired results when developing and building your courses. Hope it helps!

Thanks for your input!

I've looked at the article, but it doesn't give a solution to the issues I experience. But it does recommend Google Chrome when using HTML5, and after testing that, I agree. It works much better (too bad, I can't be sure, that everyone uses that browser)

I'll try to work around every issue, keeping in mind, that not all browsers are 100% HTML5 compatible.

I do have two other questions, I hope you can answer....

Is it possible to publish without the "Prev" and "Next" buttons showing? I'd like to hide all standard controls, and use my own (both relevant for HTML5 and Flash).

Also, can I "program" features myself? In case I run into a limitation, and want something to work a bit differently. Is there an article about that (if it's possible, of course)?

Yes, you can publish without the prev and next buttons.  Go into storyboard view and click on each of the slides/pages.  On the right, you should be able to uncheck the prev and next buttons.  (You'll need to do this on all of the pages otherwise it adds additional space at the bottom of the screen when you publish)

You can then add prev and next buttons into the slide master and add triggers to each to go to next page etc.  I've done this with a few courses to 'get away from the player' and it works great.

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous - You can also add states to the buttons to show when it has been clicked on.  You'll notice on the iPad, the html5 acts a little slow moving pages and users will click on the button again repeatidly whilst the course catches up - thus then skipping lots of pages and becoming annoying! (This has been mentioned on a previous post).

Hi. I have a problem in storyline 3. i created a project and when i preview it everything seems OK but when i publish it for CD and then try to run the file i get this message: This course cannot be played because your web browser does not support HTML5. Does anyone knows whats the problem and how it cloud be fixed. i have IE 9, Firefox 66 and Chrome 73 versions on my computer and i used all of them as my default browser but still got this message.
