Problems with resuming a completed course

Aug 02, 2018

Has anyone had any issues where replacing old SCORMs with updated SCORMs on the LMS breaks the resume data for a user who has already completed that chapter? If they open the completed chapter and choose not to resume, they can view the chapter fine from the beginning. If they choose to resume, the course opens up to the same random slide each time and the user is unable to move forward or backwards in the chapter. The cursor remains as the articulate loading wheel.

If a user has NOT completed the chapter, they seem to be able to resume the chapter normally.

We've experienced this in more than one course. The key conditions for this happening is:

  • User has already completed the course
  • The course SCORM files were replaced after the user had completed the course

Any insight is appreciated!

Hi Irene,

Typically we don't recommend overwriting a course that users could still be participating in. As when you update (overwrite) existing course files in your LMS or web server, learners who previously started the course won't be able to resume where they left off. They'll start over at the first slide in the updated course.

If learners are choosing not to resume, it sounds like the right thing is happening, that they're brought to the beginning of the course and start over.
