Problems with slide advance when importing from PPT
May 16, 2016
I have been having problems with slide Advance and Back for the past month. I had no issues before this! If I create a Storyline 2 presentation from scratch I have no issues. However, when I import a presentation from PowerPoint, both in preview mode and after publishing, I cannot advance or go back to previous slides. I also cannot manually select a slide from the navigation menu. None of my slides are locked.
Before you send me to this link, I will tell you I have looked at everything there and this is not the answer to my problem: https://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/things-to-consider-when-importing-powerpoint-into-storyline
I have attached a sample of what happens every time I import.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey Carrie! Thanks for sharing that published output. I uploaded it to SCORM cloud for testing, and I see what you're saying about not being able to advance. Could you share your .story file here so we can have a look at the settings?
For reference, I'm going to link this article on adjusting Slide Properties, which includes information on slides advancing and navigation settings, just in case you haven't seen this info from our User Guide.
Here is the .story file.
Thanks for your help! I checked out the Slide Properties links. I've played with everything. Nothing helps!
Hey there Carrie. I tested out your file and I'm seeing the same behavior. There was no setting that I could change, and importing those slides into a new project did not work.
I tested importing a PowerPoint file on my end, and the PPT file had locked navigation with automatic advancing. I was not able to replicate the issue, though; it navigated fine.
Are you able to share your PowerPoint file with us to test it on our end? Also, is this happening only with one PPT file or all of them? You can share your file with us here privately if you prefer.
It has been happening with all my PPT files for the past month. I have attached a sample.
Hi Carrie!
I am unable to replicate the issue with your file. Are you importing as explained here?
Go to the master slide. there is a text box beside the master that apparently has metadata from the ppt, including embedded fonts. Delete it, and the navigation works.
Walt, Thank you very much!!! That solved the issue! My company changed out PPT corporate template about a month ago! Go figure!
Awesome discovery! Thanks again!
Well, I just learned something new as well. Thanks Walt!
Glad you're back to good Carrie.
