project can't open, "it may have been created in a newer version"?

May 13, 2013

I have created this file just days ago, and it is working fine until now. Can anyone please help me?

Hi Ken!

For your protection, I deleted the image containing your serial number.

As for the message you're getting, please be sure you're following some basic rules to prevent strange behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Finally, if your Storyline software is not working properly, a simple repair may fix the problem. If not, please feel free to submit a ticket to our support team for additional help.

Thanks, Ken!

Hi Carrie,

I'm not sure that Ken is still subscribed to this thread, but did you look at the troubleshooting steps previously shared by Peter? You may also want to try importing the existing project into a new project.  Please let us know if you're able to check out those elements and are still running into an issue.
