Publish for Web - Problems when accessing from Google Drive?

Jul 17, 2014

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could give some advice especially when it comes to user testing.

I've recently been working on a series of E-learning projects that are being user tested through the Google Drive method (meaning uploading the published file to googledrive, sharing it as public and changing the story.html file to index.html). Once uploaded there is no problem running the module.

The problem is when the user testing begins, and I've gotten feedback about things like

- sound disappears

- there is no sound at all

- module freezes midway through

These modules average around 50mb when published and contain both audio and video all throughout.

So my questions:

- Does this occur when there are a lot of users accessing the module from Google Drive? I would imagine that since it's being accessed on an online folder that the capacity to let multiple users accessing it causes the module to bog down compared to being on an LMS or hosted on a web domain.

- Does the user's internet speed factor into freezing/loss of audio?

- Are there optimal publish settings that do not compromise quality but keep resource size to a reasonable amount?

Thanks!

Hi Raphy,

I haven't heard of specific issues with Google Drive and testing out the published output, but the items you mentioned would all be viable reasons why it may behave differently. Also, you may want to confirm that the users are accessing it through one of the web browsers and flash versions as detailed here.

If you'd like to share a link to the course, we can do a little testing as well in a few different browsers and with a different internet speed.

Hi Ashley,

Sure, I can share a link to the course. Is there a place where I can privately send to you, though? The learning modules are under NDA and still under development, so my client and I would like to keep it from being publicly accessed.
