Let me just put it this way, I have a set of course in which I have used variables for topic names e.g. %Topic1name%. When I publish the course to Word, the document only shows %Topic1name% and doesn't translate to the actual topic name.
Those variables will have content only while the module is executing, so there is no way for SL to publish them except by name. To fill them in for Word, I would use global Find and Replace. Sorry.
