Published not = Preview

Jun 27, 2019

Hello all, I am new to storyline and I am having some exporting/publishing issues.

(At the bottom I have the CD zip file and project file of my "game")

When I shoot a missile (using the A, S, D or F keys) and the missile intersects with a spaceship, it is supposed to switch to an explosion gif, and once the object leaves intersection, the state is supposed to switch to an invisible state. On the preview version this works just fine, but when I publish, the explosions rarely happen, but the ships still go to their hidden state.

My initial assumption is that the published work is slower, or more 'laggy' than the project in storyline so it is not fast enough to recognize the quick changing states. Is this something I am stuck with or is there a solution?

Thx

-Justin

Hello, Justin. Welcome, and great job on your game! 🚀

I'm also seeing some strange behavior when viewing the Launch_Story.exe file that seems to match what you're describing. Here's a quick Peek 360 of my testing.

I don't see anything in your setup that would cause these discrepancies, so I'd like to get a second opinion from our Support team.

I'm going to share this with our team, and they'll reach out to you via email shortly with their findings. I'll follow along, as I'm also curious to know the culprit!

Thank you for the response, unfortunately I think I left out one detail on accident.

I am trying to use this game on my edu website and when I upload the game files in their entirety and use the story.html (because I don't want to make students download the content, it has to be web link), the explosions almost never happen on that version.

Thanks

Hi there, Justin!

I see my teammate, Gerald, connected the behavior to an open issue we're investigating in the HTML5 output where GIF animations on states behave erratically.

I'll share this additional insight with him just in case, and add this discussion to our report so we can notify you on any changes on all fronts. Appreciate you working through this oddity with us!
