Published Story Size changes when removing all buttons from bottom of player

Jun 25, 2015

Hi,

I prefer to remove as many Storyline Player options as possible when creating courses so I have more control over the entire look and feel of the interface.

I noticed when I remove all the features from the bottom of the player (Volume, Next, Previous, Submit) that the size of the published Story Size changes.

See attached images.

  • SL_includeButtons.jpg - With buttons on bottom, Story Size (Content area) is 800X600
  • SL_noButtons.jpg - With no buttons on bottom, Story Size (Content area) is something like 732X550

Is it possible to remove all the buttons from the bottom of the player and still retain my 800X600 size?

Hi Justin,

The player elements that you choose to include/not include are going to contribute to the overall slide sizing and player sizing as described here.  If you would like to have the overall size at a particular setting you may want to consider those player elements when setting your story size  which you'll want to do at the start of a project so that it doesn't change your overall slide design/ set up.

Hi Ashley,

I must not have been totally clear. I am very aware of  how player elements affect the size of published course. That's not my question.

I updated my screenshots to show you my exact issue. It's the content area I'm referring to that is changing size (In red outline in my screenshots).

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the images. These are the same slide where you've just added the volume button to the bottom? What did you set the story size too? You mentioned "not using any features in the player" but you are using the title, resources, and menu - so those are all enabled. Just to clarify that we're on the same page, and looking at the same stuff, are you able to share this .story file here so that I can take a look at all your settings?

Hi Ashley,

Yes they are the same slide where I just added the volume button to the bottom. The Story size is 80X600. Also, I mentioned I wasn't using any features on the BOTTOM of the player. Ignore all the other features, they don't seem to have any impact.

Please open the attached file. Preview slide 1 and the content area should be 800X600 (as expected and what shows in my screenshot called 'SL_includeButtons.jpg")

Now 'turn off' the volume buttons so there are no features on the bottom of the player. Preview slide 1 again and the content area is now something like 732X550 (not as expected and is what shows in my screenshot called 'SL_noButtons.jpg")

Pleae let me know if you experience the same issue as what my screenshots show.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the sample file. I took it and did a save as so that I could compare them side by side (with and without the volume button). This is what I saw below - they seem to be the same story size, and the same amount of room in the player. I also noticed that your second quiz slide includes the submit button and the results slide includes the next/prev button - so the player is accommodating for those in it's total spacing in the bottom as it won't update the spacing on a slide by slide basis - that could cause issues with the overall display and sizing of your slide content.
